Claudia Silva is a British-Chilean artist whose work explores the moments that surround us, capturing the beauty in the everyday and the domestic. This could be the corner of a room, a garden, or the relationships between objects on a table.
Through a process of curiosity and observation, and using sketch books and memory, Claudia makes tapestry-like paintings built from exploratory mark-making and an obsession with the complexities of colour.
After working for many years in costume in theatre and film, Claudia returned to painting full-time in 2010, completing a Masters’ in Visual Art and Illustration at Camberwell College of Art.
Born in Chile and raised in South London, a sense of place is particularly important to Claudia’s work. She has lived in Spain (Catalonia), Sussex, and Suffolk, with each place bringing a different narrative to her work. She has exhibited widely in the UK and Europe, and her work is held in private collections around the world. She has been selected six times for the RWS Open, most recently in 2026, when she was awarded the RWS St Cuthbert’s Mill Prize.
In 2024, she was invited to be an artist in residence at the Alde Valley Festival, in Suffolk, exploring the gardens of Great Glemham through paintings and drawings.
